'House of Cards' season 5 release date, spoilers: A fiercer Claire Underwood

(Facebook / House of Cards)Claire Underwood is Vice President of America and possibly the President when "House of Cards" returns for season 5.

Viewers of "House of Cards" have witnessed the rise of Claire Underwood as the seemingly supportive politician's wife to being the active first lady and now Vice President of the country. Season 4 finale teases of a showdown between couple Frank and Claire, and season 5 is widely speculated to see Claire hold the highest position in the political arena.

Viewers have been waiting for Claire to finally leave her husband Frank in season 4. However, instead of a divorce, the two continued to sever their personal relationship while projecting a united front. As the season progressed though, Claire's political power has grown, and in the end, she has become the vice president who can potentially bring her husband down.

There are many rumors regarding the story's plot. Different scenarios are presented, but all of them point to Frank eventually losing the presidency to his wife. While fans of the show have to wait for season 5 for Claire to fight, actress Robin Wright has channelled her inner Claire to get equal pay with co-star Kevin Spacey.

In an interview with Bazaar Magazine, she shared, "There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarchs are equal. They are in 'House of Cards.' I was looking into the statistics and Claire Underwood's character was more popular than Frank for a period of time. So I capitalised on it. I was like: 'You'd better pay me or I'm going public.'"

On gender inequality in Hollywood, she further said, "You don't hold the value you would have held if you done four movies a year like Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett did during the time I was raising my kids. Now I'm kind of on a comeback at 50 years old."

"House of Cards" season 5's premiere date has not been announced yet, but it is estimated to be released early next year on Netflix.
