Homeland season 5 spoilers: Carrie and her mother will need to work things out in season 5
The fourth season of Homeland just wrapped up, and a Showtime executive hints about what awaits Carrie, Quinn, Saul, and the rest of the brave CIA men on the show's fifth season.
Season 4 of Homeland ended in a tame manner, with Carrie and the rest of the CIA team coming home after an attack by Haqqani at the US Embassy in Islamabad. Those who have been watching the show for a while know that the past seasons of Homeland have always ended in explosive cliffhangers and episodes, with season 3 ending in Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) being executed in Tehran.
Some of the fans thought that the season 4 ending was quite anti-climactic and even "boring," but all questions were answered at the end of season 4. Showtime president, David Nevins, came to the defense of the writers who chose to end the fourth season in such way.
"I think a show with this amount of political and narrative complexity can do a last episode that has a change of pace. I thought they needed to do an episode back in Washington, and needed to deal with Carrie's family situation and her issues with motherhood," explained Nevin in an interview transcribed by Christian Today.
Nevins also gave hints as to what can fans expect once the show returns for its fifth season, which is set to be premiered on the third quarter of 2015.
The sudden appearance of Ellen (Victoria Clark), Carrie's mother, might have an impact on the fifth season. Ellen came back to the Mathison household after seeing the death of her ex-husband, Frank in the obituary, but Carrie did not take her mother's sudden presence lightly. Towards the end of the season finale, Carrie went on a road trip to pursue her mother and find answers for herself.
