'Han Solo' spin-off premiere date, cast news: Female lead, Lando Calrissian being cast
The cast of the upcoming "Han Solo" standalone film is slowly taking shape as news of the studio being close to deciding on a female lead has broken out. It has been revealed that Tessa Thompson, Naomi Scott, and Zoe Kravitz have tested for the mystery female lead.
According to Variety, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are set to direct the upcoming project, are meeting with actresses to play the role of the female lead. This is the second time they have held screen tests, with the first one being for the role of Han Solo himself.
Alden Ehrenreich was previously revealed to have nabbed the role out of a casting pool of more than 3,000. Ehrenreich, known for his work in "Hail, Caesar!" and "Blue Jasmine," was the first person to audition for the character.
Thompson has previously starred in films like "Creed" and "Selma," while Scott is set to portray the pink ranger in the upcoming "Power Rangers" film. Kravitz, on the other hand, has starred in "The Divergent Series" and "Mad Max: Fury Road," in addition to being the front person of the band Lolawolf.
Apart from the female lead, it has also been revealed that the role of a young Lando Calrissian is also being cast. Fans can recall that Lando had appeared in the original "Star Wars" films and was a friend of Han Solo's before he involuntarily betrayed him. According to TheWrap, the part is being cast under the code name "Chance."
While there are a number of actors who would do well in the role, speculations are rife that Donald Glover, known for "Community" and "Atlanta," which he both created and stars in, is a good bet for the part. However, since this has not been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney, fans should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
The "Han Solo" spin-off film is set to premiere on May 25, 2018.
