The "Halo" franchise has been an Xbox exclusive since its third installment (the first two having been originally released for PC). However, all that is rumored to change as speculations grow that the next installment will be made available on both Windows 10 and Xbox One.

According to sources of Kotaku, a new mandate has been established in Microsoft — moving forward, all its published games will be made available on PC and Xbox one platforms. An example of the start of the mandate was the game "Fable Legends," which the company has made available on both platforms. It was just unfortunate that the game was recently canceled due to internal restructuring of the company.

Same Kotaku sources also claim that the campaign to make former Xbox exclusive games available on all its platforms and devices is dubbed "Project Helix," and will include the "Halo" franchise.

Another report by The BitBag says that Frank O'Connor, development director of the "Halo" franchise, revealed that the company is focusing on making its next game titles compatible with Windows 10 and that even "Halo Wars 2" will soon be brought to Xbox One and PC.

This move by Microsoft to incorporate new and existing IPs on both platforms is said to be an attempt of the company to boost sales for the games and for the devices and consoles.

Aside from whether the next "Halo" installment would be truly made available on PC or not, fans are also anticipating on when the actual release of the game is. It is expected that announcement will be made during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 event, which is set to take place between June 14 and 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

It is also rumored that Microsoft will be unveiling two Xbox consoles at the expo, a smaller and cheaper Xbox console, speculated to be released later this year, and a larger and more powerful Xbox console in 2017.
