'Half Life 3' news, updates: Will Valve release third installment as virtual reality title in 2018?
The future of the "Half Life" continues to look bleak with the lack of "Half Life 3" updates. However, the most loyal of fans refuse to give up hope, especially after reports of the game being released in virtual reality have surfaced.
According to reports, for Valve to keep up with the current trends of technology, it may choose to release "Half Life 3" as a virtual reality game title. There are also speculations that the VR game might be released sometime in 2018.
Unfortunately, like with other reports in the past, Valve has chosen not to comment on these latest developments. As such, readers shouldn't expect "Half Life 3" without an official announcement from the game developer.
The development of "Half Life 3" also proves to be difficult as original "Half Life" game designer Marc Laidlaw has already resigned from Valve and retired from the gaming industry.
"I am no longer a full or part time Valve employee, no longer involved in day to day decisions or operations, no longer a spokesman for the company, no longer privy to most types of confidential information, no longer working on Valve games in any capacity," Laidlaw revealed in response to an email from Reddit user TeddyWolf earlier this year.
Although gamers shouldn't expect "Half Life 3" anytime soon, they can instead look forward to the upcoming movie adaptation of the video game. It has been a few years since film director J.J. Abrams and Valve's Gabe Newell first announced a collaboration to release movies based on "Half Life" and "Portal."
Fortunately, Abrams provided an update while doing promotions for "10 Cloverfield Lane" last March. When asked about the movie adaptations, the director revealed that they have a team of writers working on it but may not be released anytime soon since development is still in the very early stages.
More news and updates on "Half Life 3" should arrive soon.
