After the events of season four, it is no wonder that "Grimm" season five is touted to be much darker and grimmer, especially for Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli). One of Portland's finest is said to be in a biblical place as he wants to exact revenge against those that took his loved ones away.

As season four was wrapping up, Nick's mother, Kelly Burkhardt (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), was killed and beheaded by Kenneth, one of the royals. Kelly, who was also a grimm, fell for a trap that was laid down by both Kenneth and Nick's girlfriend, Juliet (Bitsie Tulloch). The veterinarian turned hexenbeist also met her demise when she was shot by Trubel after Nick could not find it in him to kill her.

The shocking loss of both his mother and the love of his life have left Nick in a very dark place, one that might prompt him to leave his career in law enforcement. The idea was hinted at by the actor himself during a previous interview. When asked what the writers had in store for next season, the 35-year-old actor said he thinks "they're localizing it more" and putting more focus on Portland and its wesens. And maybe even on Nick's revenge.

"I would definitely say I don't really care about being a cop anymore," the actor revealed. "I'm just like, I'm doing my own 'Grimm' thing."

There have been rumors that Portland's resident "Grimm" might find new love in erstwhile nemesis Adalind, who is carrying Nick's baby. The actor admits the dynamics between the two have changed but says his character is focused on something else – figuring out who is the cause of his misery.

"They beheaded my mom, they killed my woman, and I want to get whoever did that," he said.

One person who might help him achieve that is his best buddy, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell). Everybody's favorite blutbad was relegated to the sidelines after he and Rosalee (Bree Turner) were attacked by the wesenrein. But it seems fans missed the humorous interactions between Nick and Monroe so writers are keen on having the lovable clock-maker go on missions again with Nick. And with the state the "Grimm" is in, Monroe would be a very welcome morale booster.

The fifth season of "Grimm" will be back on NBC on Oct. 30, 2015.
