'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date, news: Rockstar Games to launch game at E3 2017?

(Facebook/grandtheftautoV)"Grand Theft Auto 6" is rumored to arrive between 2018 and 2020.

Updates on the next "GTA" title are scarce. However, there has been wide speculation that Rockstar Games will unveil "Grand Theft Auto 6" at next year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), with a release window set between 2018 and 2020.

It makes sense for Rockstar Games to postpone any announcement involving "Grand Theft Auto 6" since its predecessor, "Grand Theft Auto 5," is still grabbing headlines. The studio is still looking into adding more content for the current game and sales are still steady. For this reason, it's possible that the company is putting the follow-up on the back burner.

However, there has been talk of "Grand Theft Auto 6" being launched at the next E3 scheduled for 2017. There were previous rumors of Rockstar Games introducing the title at Sony's September event, but the event passed and no new information was released. Sony did, however, introduce a new console to its PlayStation lineup. This is also one of the cited reasons as to why Rockstar Games may not be rushing the development on a sixth installment in the franchise.

It has been said that the developer may be waiting until new consoles from Sony and Microsoft make it to the market. New consoles are likely to boast new features, which means Rockstar Games needs to take advantage of it. It is also believed that "Grand Theft Auto 6" may carry virtual reality (VR) support. This would not come as a surprise since the VR sector is rapidly gaining momentum in the gaming industry. 4K or 5K displays are also good reasons to hold off on making "Grand Theft Auto 6."

As previously reported, the setting of the rumored upcoming game is said to be in London. However, there are also those who believe that the title may stay in United States territory, setting the game in San Diego. Other rumors include Tokyo and Las Venturas.

However, since nothing has been confirmed thus far, fans should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
