'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date, news: Game delayed due to 'Red Dead Redemption 2'?
Fans' speculations regarding the existence of "Red Dead Redemption 2" were recently proven correct when Rockstar Games confirmed it via multiple teasers. However, one other title from the developer is still shrouded in mystery: "Grand Theft Auto 6."
According to reports, there appears to be a lot of moving parts and Rockstar's recent announcement of "Red Dead Redemption 2" may delay the release of "Grand Theft Auto 6." It is possible that the studio will be focusing all of its efforts on "Red Dead Redemption 2" since it has been revealed that the sequel will be dropping in the fall of 2017. This means that "Grand Theft Auto 6" may be pushed back until further notice.
Moreover, the same publication notes that Leslie Benzies, former president of the developer, has filed a lawsuit against his ex-colleagues over royalty fee disputes. This may also be keeping the studio from developing "Grand Theft Auto 6."
However, as previously reported, Rockstar Games is widely expected to unveil "Grand Theft Auto 6" at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next year. If this turns out to be true, then the gaming community is likely looking at a release date set between 2018 and 2020.
There is also some belief that the studio may be waiting until new consoles hit the market. With both Sony and Microsoft releasing mid-generation upgrades, and Nintendo releasing the Switch, Rockstar Games may be waiting for the right time to start developing the sequel. There is also talk of the upcoming game to be virtual reality-ready, which will surely make the title more attractive because of its more immersive experience.
Additionally, "Grand Theft Auto 5" is still able to hold its own in the market, which means Rockstar Games may be holding off on the sequel until the current game exhausts its popularity and sales.
However, since these are all but mere speculations and rumors, fans should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
