Gotham season 3 spoilers: Ben McKenzie teases a different Gordon

(Facebook/GOTHAMonFOX)Ben McKenzie teases a different Jim Gordon in season 3.

"Gotham" fans saw villains rise and felt their wrath last season. Now, Fox is ominously teasing that heroes will fall in season 3.

"Gotham" season 2 did quite a number on Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) — physically, emotionally, and mentally. Unfortunately, things haven't appeared to have gotten better as McKenzie teased that Gordon is on a downward spiral in season 3.

The actor shared that the next season will see Gordon out of the GCPD and working as a bounty hunter chasing down those that escaped from Indian Hill. While the former detective isn't hurting people just for the fun of it, he will still be struggling with his morality and the fact that the city is now such a rough place.

"The subtitle of the season, 'Heroes Will Fall,' is indicative of what thematically we're doing in the season with, not just Bruce Wayne and the other heroes, but with Gordon himself," McKenzie explained. "He will fall a long, long way and have to pick himself up again."

A trailer for the upcoming season does hint at how different things are. While the first half of the clip shows highlights from season 2, the latter half gave viewers glimpses of the Court of Owls and Gordon and other officers trying to fight the creatures who escaped Indian Hill. Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) is also shown in the midst of celebrations and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett) with her hands around Prof. Hugo Strange's (B.D Wong) neck. The clip ends with a first look of Talon as he attacks Alfred (Sean Pertwee).

The network has also released several teasers that prove that production for "Gotham" is really in full swing. One teaser shows Gordon checking out a room when someone puts a gun to his head, while another is a closer look at Alfred as he hears someone approaching. It's probably Talon as it appears to be the same room in the trailer. The last trailer shows a manic-looking Oswald Cobblepot walking toward someone, his gun draw out.

According to Bleeding Cool, season 3 will continue to show how the loss of love has made Penguin, the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), and even Gordon, more violent and chaotic. Taylor is also hoping that season 3 will show a more ruthless Penguin.

The premiere episode of "Gotham" season 3 will be aired on Fox on Sept. 19. Eleven episodes will be aired in the fall, followed by three episodes in January. The final episodes will then be aired in the spring of 2017.
