GoPro Hero 5 specs rumors: GoPro switching from Ambarella to Qualcomm; Hero 5 will be lighter, more compact?
GoPro is expected to launch its GoPro Hero 5 before the year ends, and action camera fanatics are excited to get their hands on the "most connected and convenient" device from the company.
Not much has been revealed about the new Hero 5, except that CEO Nick Woodman teased during the company's earnings call in February that it will be the "most connected and convenient" action camera the company has ever developed.
At this point, everything that's said about the GoPro Hero 5 is based on speculations. Although reports about the camera's specs and features should be taken with a pinch of salt, fans are still looking forward to the next GoPro Hero iteration.
According to several reports, GoPro Hero 5 will be much lighter compared to the previous Hero models and this should make the device more convenient to use. If GoPro intended to have the lightest camera of the bunch, the Hero 5 is expected to weigh less than the Hero 4 Session, which weighs 74 grams.
Given that the Hero 5 is more superior to Session, the upcoming camera is speculated to have the capability to record 8K videos. The battery is more powerful at 2,800mAh compared to Session's 1,000mAh. CNET also reported that Hero 5 will possibly adopt the same cube design from Session 4, although they will differ in size.
As for the process, CNET mentioned that GoPro might switch to Snapdragon chipsets. GoPro has used Ambarella processor for previous models, but this time, for Hero 5, the company will reportedly make a switch. Qualcomm Snapdragon processors have been used in different action camera models in the market today and rumors suggest GoPro might also join the bandwagon.
But when both Ambarella and Qualcomm were asked by the publication to make a comment, neither gave any. Regardless of what processor the company will use for Hero 5, it is expected that the company is determined to release an action camera that will stand out in the market.
