'GoPro Hero 5' release date, specs news: Next action camera to be released this holiday season, may feature 3D video camera

(GoPro Official)The next entry that will succeed the "GoPro Hero 4" may finally be released this coming holiday season.

Action camera enthusiasts may just have gotten their wish fulfilled as the American technology company GoPro has announced that its next entry in the GoPro Hero series will be released during the holidays.

GoPro Hero 5, the highly anticipated successor of the acclaimed GoPro Hero 4 will be launched along with other devices this Christmas season. GoPro CEO Nick Woodman has revealed that the releases of the upcoming device along with "Karma Drone" were both delayed for reasons he couldn't disclose. Despite the dally, Woodman was quick to add that the company will be releasing three new devices in the said season.

Whether the company is streamlining or fine-tuning its upcoming products, one cannot deny that the upcoming GoPro Hero 5 will be packed with heavy, game-changing features. The next iteration is believed to come with a 3D video camera feature and a 4K video capability at 60 frames per second. Moreover, a speculation has mounted that the unit may extra smaller than its predecessor and that it can be submerged in water for up to 60 meters.

Further to its specifications, the GoPro Hero 5 may also come with a live streaming functionality. The feature was speculated last January when the company has inked partnership with Periscope, an app that is best known for its live streaming prowess. Although the company has yet to officialize this, the device may also be armed with a built-in LTE chip. If true, the upcoming device will have the capability to provide standalone streaming with platforms like YouTube and Facebook.

The price of the next entry won't disappoint its avid fans either as it is rumored that it will be retailed at just around $400. That is roughly $100 cheaper than its predecessor, the GoPro Hero 4 black.
