Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) may be facing more complicated hurdles in the next season of "Girl Meets World."

Fan of the series are still waiting for Disney Channel's announcement about its renewal. As per iTech Post, it is expected that season 4 will be dealing with more mature storylines, now that the main characters are graduating from high school. Because of the change in theme, rumors claim that the series will be more suited to air on Freeform rather than Disney. Since the network is still keeping mum about the situation, this remains as mere speculation only.

Meanwhile, the fans are doing their best to express their support for the show. The online petition to keep it going has already reached the targeted 50,000 supporters and has been formally closed. Previously, Blanchard said in an interview that the cast members also do not have any idea about what is going to happen to the series. According to her, they are also waiting for any updates. The actress also admitted that they have finished filming season 3.

"I know as much as you do. We are hoping for a Season 4, obviously, because we want to continue our story, and I feel like it's an important story to tell. But as of right now, we just finished [filming] Season 3 and we're still waiting on the word. But we do have more episodes coming out this year that air into early 2017, so we're covered for a little bit," Blanchard said, in an interview with SheKnows.

Meanwhile, season 4's storyline is rumored to be featuring the girls in college. Although Riley and Maya have already made their feelings for Lucas (Peyton Meyer) clear, speculations claim he will still be an integral part of their future quarrels. Lucas chose Riley over Maya in the last installment. Maya said she was okay with it, since she never liked him anyway. For her, her friendship with Riley was more important.
