'Game of Thrones' season 7 cast news, spoilers: Iain Glen talks filming duration, plot details

(Facebook/GameofThrones)"Game of Thrones" will premiere in the summer.

"Game of Thrones" season 7 may have only seven episodes instead of the usual 10, but that doesn't mean it will be easier to produce. As recently revealed, the significantly fewer episodes this season will take just as long to finish as previous seasons since the showrunners are making sure that everything goes perfectly.

Actor Iain Glen revealed the news while speaking with RadioTimes. Glen, who has played Sir Jorah Mormont since the beginning of the series, also added that he is unaware if his character will make it through to the end. Given the way "Game of Thrones" likes to kill off important characters, it seems that nobody is safe.

Glen also explained that both seasons 7 and 8 will need the same amount of time to make as past seasons. Considering the subject matter, it does not come as a surprise that they would take as much time as they require. Everything is slowly but surely coming to a head. Everyone's paths are crossing and more storylines are intertwining. With winter finally here, and the Night King ready to take over Westeros, there will undoubtedly be a need for more effects and post-production work.

"I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it's just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to ten," Glen said.

David Benioff, one of the show's creators, also revealed that the finale of the show has been plotted out, and has been that way for a while.

"The pieces are on the board now. Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the end game," he said.

As for what season 7 will have in store for viewers, that remains up in the air — although a few leaks and sightings may have given away some of the plot details. Apart from that, the upcoming season's story will remain surrounded by rumors.

"Game of Thrones" season 7 is expected to premiere in the summer.
