'Game of Thrones' season 6 spoilers: has Rickon Stark been captured and delivered to Ramsay?
One could say it was the gasp that was heard around the world.
There's no question that when Jon Snow took his first breath after days (in the show's timeline) of being dead, countless celebrations took place worldwide.
There were several notable developments in the second episode of "Game of Thrones" season 6, like Sansa (Sophie Turner) learning that Arya (Maisie Williams) is still alive, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) releasing Rhaegal and Viserion from captivity, and Jaqen (Tom Wlaschiha) telling Arya she's no longer a beggar. Fans are no doubt also talking about Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) setting his hounds on his stepmother and newborn brother. But all those scenes pale in comparison to the show's last scene, when Jon Snow (Kit Harington) awakens after Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Davos (Liam Cunningham), and his allies have given up hope that he could be resurrected.
As teased by the trailer, the aftermath of the Lord Commander's revival will undoubtedly be shown in episode 3, "Oathbreaker." The short clip starts with a shot of Snow slowly getting up, followed by a scene showing the Wildlings and others at the courtyard shocked at what they're seeing.
The trailer also shows Arya fighting the Waif again. Jaqen tells her that "if the girl is truly no one, she has nothing to fear." His advice might have resonated as Arya can be seen blocking the Waif's attack. There are also scenes of Cersei (Lena Headey) demanding to know if anyone is planning to profit from the Lannisters' loss and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and the Three-Eyed Raven (Max von Sydow) sharing another vision of the past. This time, the two are privy to a group of young men confronting another. One of the young men is said to be Eddard Stark and the scene is said to be from the much-anticipated battle at the Tower of Joy.
The trailer also shows Ramsay receiving a visitor who tells him that he has brought a gift. Whatever the new gift is has Lord Bolton smiling, prompting speculations that Rickon Stark (Art Parkinson) might have been delivered to the scheming sadist. It's known that the younger Stark will also be making an appearance this season, although it's not clear when or how he'll be returning.
Speaking of people returning, Snow's revival has started an avalanche of speculation as to how the character will be changed, or if the experience has affected him at all. Harington recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he was worried that the character would just wake up and remain the same. But as it turns out, something has fundamentally changed for the leader of the Night's Watch.
"He realizes something about his life now: He has to live it, because that's all there is," Harington explained. "He's been over the line and there's nothing there. And that changes him. It literally puts the fear of god into him."
That certainly is good news for fans who want the character to have more depth and darkness, instead of just being noble all the time.
HBO will be airing episode 3 of "Game of Thrones" season 6 on May 8 at 9 p.m.
