The Galaxy Note 5 is the newest phablet from Samsung and it is already causing a lot of buzz among fans of the device. However, to dominate the market, it has to take on smaller smartphones, including the Sony Xperia Z3 . Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

When it comes to design, the Note 5 just looks like a bigger version of the Galaxy S6. It has a metal frame with a front and back panel covered in Gorilla Glass 4. There is a curve on the back panel which makes the device easier to hold and it comes with an improved S Pen Stylus, as well as a fingerprint scanner. It comes in four colors, black, white, silver and gold.

The Sony Xperia Z3 has a similar design. It also has a metal frame and glass on its front and back. However, its frame has additional protection on its corners that is designed to protect the device in case of accidental drops. Even though it does not have a fingerprint scanner, its edge is its IP68 certification. This certification allows it to be resistant to dust and be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

Display

There is no competition here as the display on the Note 5 is much bigger and sharper. It comes with a 5.7 inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch. As for the Xperia Z3 , it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch.

Specs

These two devices have the best hardware in the market, but the Exynos 7420 chipset on the Note 5 is faster. It is coupled with an octa-core chipset comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU. In the Xperia Z3 is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz along with an Adreno 430 GPU.

Memory

The Note line has long been famous for its memory slot. Unfortunately, Samsung did not equip their newest Note offering a slot this time. The version, however, on the Xperia Z3 can be used to add up to 128 GB of storage. When it comes to RAM, the device from Sony has 3 GB while the Note 5 has 4 GB.

Price

The 32 GB Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has a price tag of $249.99 with a two-year contract. The Sony Xperia Z3 is due to arrive shortly at carriers but it is already available on retail websites where it is priced at $650 without a contract.
