Galaxy Note 4 vs. Moto X Play: The Samsung device stands up well to new Moto handset
Last year, the top ranking phablet from Samsung was the Note 4. But this year, it needs to take on a new competitor, the budget phone from Motorola called the Moto X Play. Here is how the Motorola device compares to the Note 4.
Design
The Note 4 has a big advantage as it has a fingerprint scanner and an S Pen Stylus, both of which are not present on its competitor. However, its design is a bit lackluster as it is mostly made of plastic. Its back panel is covered with soft pleather and the device comes in white, black, gold and pink. As for the Moto X Play, it has a metal frame which is clearly visible along its edge, however, what's good about this phone is that can be customized extensively on the Moto Maker website. On the site, users can choose from different colored lenses, accents and back panels made from leather, silicone and wood.
Display
The display on the Note 4 is slightly larger. It has a 5.7-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 515 pixels per inch, which makes it much sharper than its competitor. The Moto X Play comes with a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch.
Specs
Though the Moto X Play was just recently released, its hardware is quite similar to that of its competitor when it comes to speed. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and four clocked at 1.0 GHz and an Adreno 405 GPU. As for the Note 4, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, a Krait 450 CPU clocked at 2.7 GHz and Adreno 420 GPU.
Memory
There is a similar memory slot on each of these devices, which can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. When it comes to their RAM however, the Note 4 is ahead with 3 GB while its competitor only has 2 GB.
Battery
The battery on the Note 4 is a 3220 mAh version, which lags behind the 3630 mAh version on the Moto X Play.
Price
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a price tag of $129 with a two-year contract while the Moto X Play could cost around $300, unlocked.
