"Frozen 2" is the one movie that millions of people around the world are waiting for. Unfortunately, fans won't be seeing Queen Elsa, Princess Anna, Kristoff and Olaf this year. But the odds of seeing these characters will increase dramatically starting 2017.

"Frozen" was big hit since it came out in 2013, and its momentum and popularity hasn't tapered off much as there's still a big market for "Frozen" merchandise, even if it has been three years since the movie rolled out.

As expected, a sequel for the hit movie is in the works but it will take until 2018 for it to be released. In the meantime, there's a "Frozen" Broadway musical that's being scheduled for 2017. A musical is a good move for Disney as the company has found success in turning its popular animations into plays. With any luck, the "Frozen" musical might even surpass the much-hyped "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."

The musical will undoubtedly do well, but fans are understandably more focused on finding out anything and everything about "Frozen's" sequel. While Disney hasn't made any official announcements about the upcoming movie, numerous speculations surround it.

For instance, Movie News Guide reported that aside from Anna and Elsa, "Frozen 2" will also focus on one of the most beloved sidekicks ever created – Olaf. The lovable snowman will reportedly find love and a girlfriend in the sequel. The news was further abetted when Josh Gad, the voice actor behind the snowman, hinted that the character will have a "female counterpart."

"Frozen's" director Chris Buck is keeping mum on what the sequel will be about. But he has admitted that whatever plot they go with, he's certain that it will carry a strong message for young people. The director says everyone involved in the movie is aware of what's happening in society and the opportunity that have to send a strong and positive message to their audience.

It's not official but "Frozen 2" is expected to hit movie theatres sometime in 2018.
