Rumors about "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie getting cancelled have been swirling. However, recent speculations suggest that the movie is almost done, but no formal announcement as to when the movie is going to be released has been made yet, expect for the vague "sometime in 2016."

Fans are highly anticipating the movie adaptation of the popular game since it began production in early 2015. "Five Nights at Freddy's" joins the ranks of "Assassins Creed," "Splinter Cell," and other favorite video games that will soon be seen on the big screen.

"Five Nights at Freddy's" is a single-player horror survival game designed by Scott Cawthon and available on Android, iOS, and Windows platforms. The game revolves around a fictional pizza restaurant where cute animatronic mascots turn into killing machines at night.

Warner Bros. has bought the rights to "Five Nights at Freddy's from Cawthon. The movie adaptation of the game will be produced by Seth Grahame-Smith, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.

Cawthon will also be involved in the production to make sure that the movie remains faithful to the original story.

Grahame-Smith via Hollywood Reporter said, "We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie."

Gil Kenan of the "Monster's House" and "City of Ember" fame has been tasked to direct the movie. He also confirmed through his Instagram account that the film will not be using any computer generated images. Instead, he will use life-size animatronics similar to what the Henson Creature Shop used.

Despite an unclear release date, Kenan has been giving fans regular updates through his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Funko has created toy versions as well as other collectible items of the "Five Nights at Freddy's" characters. Items can be purchased from their website.
