'Final Fantasy 7' release date update: First installment to drop in 2017

(Square Enix)A remake of 1997's "Final Fantasy 7" is expected to land in 2017.

As news about the "Final Fantasy 7" remake continues to make rounds, fans of the franchise are getting more excited. But when can they expect to get their hands on the game? According to reports, the first of many installments will be released sometime in 2017.

Fans already know by now that Square Enix plans to release the remake of "Final Fantasy 7" in many installments as opposed to just one long game. It should be noted, though, that each installment's duration comprises a full game instead of being episodic in nature. The studio apparently has plans to release the remake in three separate installments, with the first one landing next year.

Having more than one full game to look forward to when "Final Fantasy 7" releases is definitely more than any fan bargained for. The remake will follow the three-part layout of "Final Fantasy XIII."

Apart from that, fans can also expect better graphics this time around. Since 1997, the year the original "Final Fantasy 7" was released, technology has really hit a stride in terms of innovation and development. Improved graphics is something that the game will boast when it hits the market — thanks to modern-day technology.

Additionally, it has been reported that the new "Final Fantasy 7" will take inspiration from the "Kingdom Hearts" saga, wherein real-time battle was adopted. This means players can play as Cloud or his friends without limit. They can fight against enemies and even cast spells. Strategy is also a big part of the game. It will play into how players choose weapons and magic for each character.

Square Enix has yet to officially assign a release date or window for the upcoming remake of "Final Fantasy 7," which was first announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). In the meantime, fans can look forward to "Final Fantasy XV," which will hit the shelves on Nov. 29.
