'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2' plot news: Sequel to focus on Dumbledore, Grindelwald, and Credence
Potterheads were recently treated to the premiere of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a movie set in the same magical world as the "Harry Potter" series. But the excitement does not stop there. It has since been confirmed that there will be four more sequels, but they won't necessarily have Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as the main protagonist.
The film introduced viewers to Newt, a magizoologist who has a passion for magical creatures, as well as American magicians Tina (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie (Alison Sudol), and No-Maj/Muggle Jacob (Dan Fogler). It also teased what the future films will revolve around: the battle against Gellert Grindelwald, the first dark wizard to ever threaten the magical community.
Grindelwald made an appearance in the film, played by Johnny Depp, and it effectively set up what is to come. According to the "Harry Potter" books, Albus Dumbledore was the wizard who ultimately defeated Grindelwald, despite having shared a friendship with him. The upcoming sequels are expected to shift its focus on other characters, but Newt will definitely still be a part of it all.
"I don't think [Newt will be at] the heart of all of them. I think he'll be part — so will Tina, Queenie and Jacob — will be part of the next one," producer David Heyman told Cinema Blend, before continuing to say that Dumbledore, Grindelwald, and Credence will be at the center of the story.
Credence, played by Ezra Miller, appeared to have been vanquished by the MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA), but a deleted scene apparently showed him alive at the end of the film. David Yates, who directed the first film, as well as four "Harry Potter" films, is set to return in the director's seat for all sequels.
As for what the sequels will be called, Redmayne has revealed that it will follow the format of the "Harry Potter" films, beginning with "Fantastic Beasts" and filling in the blanks after "and the..." However, for now, the exact titles have yet to be revealed.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2" will premiere on Nov. 16, 2018.
