(FOX TV)A scene from the season 2 episode finale of "Empire."

The season 2 finale of "Empire" left fans with a lot of cliffhanger questions which piqued interests as to what may happen next season.

It may be recalled that during the last episode, Leah (Leslie Uggams) revealed that Lucious (Terrance Howard) and Tariq (Morocco Omari) are half-brothers. The episode also showed Tariq shooting their father, with Lucious witnessing the entire thing.

In her interview with TV Line, Ilene Chaiken, "Empire's" executive producer, dished out what's in store for the drama series. When asked what the deal is with Omari's character in the show, she had this to say: "Tariq thinks he's a good guy — and that Lucious is a bad guy."

She further added that Tariq will be playing a major role in the upcoming season as Lucious' nemesis. "Tariq is very motivated, and he has a very personal grievance against Lucious. He's not just a fed who wants to make his bones taking down Lucious Lyon — he's Lucious' half-brother," she commented.

Chaiken also said that season 3 will slowly unveil why Tariq is coming so hard after Lucious and referred to the last scene of the season 2 finale for a taste of what it's going to be like in season 3.

When it comes to the theme of the show's season 3, Chaiken said fans should expect a "battle of dark vs. light," and that the upcoming season will attempt to show who the Lyons really are and how they will be able to define themselves moving forward. Fans are also going to see if the Lyons' family are capable of change and if Lucious will really project himself as the dark lord who pulls everyone in all directions. Lastly, season 3 will explore the consequences of Cookie's (Taraji Henson) decision to leave Lucious for good.

With these diverse plot lines in the "Empire" horizon, it's no wonder fans are having a hard time sitting still as they await the show's return on FOX for its third season.
