Andre's (Trai Byers) plan to kill his father will start in the upcoming episode of "Empire." Will he really be the reason of Lucious' (Terrence Howard) downfall?

The promo for the first episode airing in January teases on what fans can expect to happen in the Lyons' world. Andre's expression appears to show his determination to avenge Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) and their baby's death. He has revealed last episode that he holds Lucious responsible for what happened. He told Shyne (Xzibit) his real intention – that by killing his father, he could take over Empire and be king.

With Nessa (Sierra Aylina McClain) on his side, he was finally able to say goodbye to Rhonda and their memories. He threw his wedding ring away and promised her he would not stop until he gets revenge.

Executive producer Sanaa Hamri said in an interview that Andre meant every word he said.

"Of course he means it. He is going to kill his father. That's his goal. He wants to kill his father. That's what he's going to try to do for the second half of the season. Will he be able to do it? I don't know. He may, he may not. That's why people are going to have to watch the show to find out. But Andre's character is so dangerous because he has nothing to lose and he's ruthless and he's calculating," the EP told Variety.

Meanwhile, Lucious will probably not see Andre coming since he is so focused on separating Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Angelo (Taye Diggs). Last episode, he told his ex-wife that her rich boyfriend has a dark past. When Angelo was younger, he was allegedly involved in an accident. The car he was driving sunk in a lake and the girl he was with never got out.

"Empire" season 3 will return in March 22, 2017 on Fox.
