'Empire' season 2 spoilers: Laz out, Lucious in for Cookie

(Facebook/EmpireFOX)Laz is dead to Cookie in "Empire" season 2B.

Laz (Adam Rodriguez) is definitely out of Cookie's (Taraji P. Henson) life for good in the second half of the hit FOX series "Empire" season 2.

Showrunner Ilene Chaiken basically confirmed the news to TV Line, stating that even if he somehow survived the bloody encounter with Lucious (Terrence P. Howard), Laz was as good as dead for Cookie.

It was Laz who masterminded Hakeem's (Bryshere Y. Gray) kidnapping. He knew that as the mistress of Empire Entertainment and CEO of Lyon Dynasty, his girlfriend is rolling with dough. Laz planned the heist to get a huge sum of money. He almost got away with it, but his involvement was soon revealed. Cookie dropped him like a hot potato, but not until her estranged husband "dealt with" him first.

"I wouldn't assume Laz is dead, but I'd assume that he got hurt pretty badly. And I would say he's dead to Cookie — you can't do that to Cookie and expect ever to live another day in her eyes," the executive producer shared.

If Laz is out of the running for Cookie's heart, does it mean viewers will finally see a reunion between her and Lucious? The embrace they shared at the latter part of the promo for season 2B speaks volume on how they still care for each other. There are many things Cookie and Lucious do not agree on, and these frequently became the cause of their numerous fights in the past.

For both of Cookie and Lucious, though, Empire is hallowed grounds reserved only for the Lyons. When Camilla (Naomi Campbell) and Mimi (Marisa Tomei) snatched the company from Lucious, they basically declared war against Cookie as well.

According to Chaiken, the sweet embrace that they shared was a huge moment for them, as it served as "a reminder of the inextricable bond" that the two have. That in the face of adversity, no one else can understand and give comfort to Lucious quite like Cookie, and vice versa.

"Empire" season 2 will return on Wednesday, March 30, at 9 p.m. EST on FOX.
