'Dragon Ball Super' episode 44 spoilers and news: Trunks and Goten accidentally head to another planet; fierce battle upon the return of Future Trunks
The next few episodes of "Dragon Ball Super" will be action packed and interesting for sure. Not only is Vegeta and Goku about to embark on another adventure to recover their wayward sons, but everyone's favorite time-traveling Saiyan will be back with his very own story arc.
With the Universe 6 arc winding down, "Dragon Ball" creator Akira Toriyama revealed that Mirai Trunks, the time traveling son of Bulma and Vegeta, will be returning to his own "Dragon Ball Super" saga. What made the news more interesting was the revelation that this time around, Future Trunks had barely escaped from a villain known as Black Goku.
Future Trunks' return was revealed on "Dragon Ball Super's" official website. It was a double whammy for fans, for not only was the purple-haired Saiyan prince shown to be sporting blue hair, the text also teased of a surprising enemy.
According to comments recently made by Toriyama and which had since been roughly translated to English, the comic book artist seemed excited for the return of Future Trunks and said he already wrote an outline for the story, with his script writers tasked to bring it to life. And it seems that in this story arc, Future Trunks would arrive after barely escaping with his life. This is a shocking development, as "Dragon Ball Z" fans know that the older Trunks was able to destroy the androids and Cell in the Cell Saga, thereby restoring peace to his world.
But what made it even more surprising was the fact that the powerful warrior has allegedly been bested by Black Goku. How this came to pass is the mystery that fans would have to unravel. Trunks' story will reportedly start a battle that would surpass time and space and even involve the Omni-King and the God of Destruction.
The cryptic hints given by Toriyama naturally had fans discussing its implications, with several theories being forwarded about the Black Goku being the villainous version of Goku. There are also speculations that Trunks' blue hair might mean that he had already reached or surpassed the Blue Saiyan level or that it was in honor of Future Bulma, who was killed by Black Goku.
Trunks' story arc will reportedly start in episode 47, with episode 44 expected to give some hints that would introduce his return. The upcoming episode, "Secret of the Unleashed Superhuman Water," does revolve around Goten and the younger Trunks accidentally landing on another planet, with Vegeta setting out to rescue them.
Episode 44 of "Dragon Ball Super" is set to be aired on Fuji TV on May 22 at 9 a.m.
