'Doctor Strange' news, release date, cast rumors: Sherlock's Martin Freeman and Chiwetel Ejiofor join the cast
Ardent fans of Marvel movies got a taste of witchcraft, mystical arts and magic when Scarlet Witch graced the large screen in "Avengers: Age Of Ultron". Those seeking more of the same are now in for a real treat next year when "Doctor Strange" releases in theatres.
News, especially casting updates, about the upcoming film has been scarce, as its production is still in the early stages. However, what is known for sure is that the high-cheek boned and handsome Benedict Cumberbatch will play the lead role of Dr. Stephen Strange. Scott Derrickson takes the director's seat for the exciting movie revolving around the life of a neurosurgeon who has lost his hands following a car accident.
But two more actors seemed to have been added to the cast of the magical Marvel movie. Latin Post reports that another "Sherlock" actor is joining the cast and who is none other than Martin Freeman who plays Dr. Watson in "Sherlock." Freeman is not only rumored to appear in "Doctor Strange" in a supporting role, but is also speculated to be playing some part in "Captain America: Civil War". Details of his role in both the movies are still under wraps, but if any actor is slated to appear in two Marvel movies, then it is safe to assume that he will have a pivotal role to play in those movies.
Joining Freeman will be Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor. Marvel has not yet confirmed the involvement of both the actors in "Doctor Strange" and is instead focusing on its next two movies, "Ant-Man" and "Captain America: Civil War." The production for "Civil War" has reportedly already begun.
MoviePilot speculates that the plot for "Doctor Strange" will contain two villains. One will be Dormammu, a self-loathing, ancient mystical being and Doctor Strange's greatest foe, while the other will be Baron Mordo, who is the polar opposite of Strange in that he uses his mystical powers for evil. It is being widely speculated that the army of the Mindless Ones will also feature in the movie. They are a compelling army whom the Sorcerer Supreme must defeat.
"Doctor Strange" won't hit the theatres before Nov. 4, 2016.
