'Destiny 2' release news: A review of statements reveals that 2017 has always been the release date of the sequel

(Facebook/Destiny)"Destiny" has an upcoming major expansion scheduled for release in September. A full sequel is scheduled to follow in 2017.

The announcement of "Destiny: Rise of Iron" and its release date has caused some confusion among gamers. Some gamers think that the upcoming DLC is the sequel Activision was referring to earlier this year, but a review of the publisher's and developer's statements makes it clear that "Destiny 2" has always been scheduled to be released in 2017.

Rumors about an upcoming "Destiny" sequel have been making the rounds since last year. In January, speculations about the sequel's September release and its possible delay also started making the rounds. In February, both the game's publisher and developer have released statements clarifying that a DLC will be released this year, and that the sequel has an indefinite 2017 release date.

Activision released an investor note, a part of which stated, "Activision Publishing, along with its partners at Bungie, expects to bring a large new expansion to Destiny in 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017."

The statement was reinforced by Bungie that said that prior to the holidays, a second and larger update for "Destiny" was scheduled for spring. Then it also stated, "Beyond that, the team is focused on delivering a large expansion again later this year, and a full 'Destiny' sequel in 2017."

When the Sept. 20 release date of "Destiny: Rise of Iron" was announced, rumors about a delay in "Destiny 2" began to surface. Perhaps a Reddit user's post could explain the confusion. Reddit is a social news website where users get to share and discuss almost every topic there is. The site is known to have been source to many accurate information, but it has also been source to some false news.

On Aug. 18, a user named Mercules904 posted that after re-reading an article previously believed to indicate "Destiny 2's" release date has been pushed back, he realized the error of the implication.

For now, both the publisher and developer are concentrating on the upcoming DLC and more information about "Destiny 2" may not be expected to be shared soon.
