'Daredevil' season 2 spoiler: Punisher will be major highlight
'Daredevil' season one focused on one major villain, Wilson Fisk a.k.a. The Kingpin and season two of the fairly new Netflix show will most likely do the same. And word on the grapevine is that The Punisher will be the core focus--aside from Daredevil himself--of the newest season.
After a successful first season, "Daredevil" has fans asking what else is new for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe television series. And International Business Times answers that the one major thing to look forward to is the appearance of The Punisher, to be portrayed by Jon Bernthal (known for his role as Shane Walsh on AMC's "The Walking Dead").
The Punisher is sort of an anti-hero in the comic books, serving as an assassin that hunts down criminals and villains to bring them to their deaths. This often creates a clash with Hell's Kitchen's Matt Murdock, the Daredevil, who leans more into law and order and bringing criminals to justice.
The Nerdist reports that, in true comic book fashion, it seems that Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher will more likely be a villain to the TV series' Daredevil (Charlie Cox) than an ally. A source was quoted saying that new showrunner Marco Ramirez refers to season two as "Daredevil vs. The Punisher."
But The Punisher has a huge following and is still very much a hero to most Marvel fans. Because of this, Netflix will most likely not make him out to be the bad guy in the same way they did with Kingpin in the first season.
There are rumors that the show is still on the lookout for actors to play Bullseye and Elektra for the second season and speculations suggest that if the series is to follow the comic books closely, it is to be expected that Daredevil will fall for Elektra, who will later be murdered by Bullseye, resulting to an eventual team-up between Daredevil and The Punisher.
"Daredevil" season two is set for release some time in 2016.
