'Daredevil' season 3 release date, rumors: show delayed as Netflix and Marvel focus on 'The Defenders'?

(Daredevil / Facebook)'Daredevil' season 3 release will most likely be delayed.

Following the big revelation in the finale of "Daredevil" season two, recent rumors suggest that the third season has been delayed largely due to Netflix and Marvel's switch of focus to "The Defenders."

Recent reports point to the upcoming miniseries as the reason behind "Daredevil" season three's delay. While fans were ecstatic when the show was announced, there has been an apparent disappointment from viewers who would love to see the development of Matt Murdock/Daredevil's (Charlie Cox) story now that he has revealed his identity to Karen (Deborah Ann Woll).

According to Movie Pilot, scheduling issues as well as the obvious focus on "The Defenders," may have caused Netflix from failing to announce an official release date for the upcoming season of "Daredevil."

It has been announced that "The Defenders" will start production later this year, meaning fans may have to wait a little longer for Matt to return to the solo screen. Aside from the upcoming trio series, Netflix is still in talks for other projects such as "Iron Fist" and the second season of "Jessica Jones."

Ubergizmo notes that Cox seemed to imply last month that he is not even sure if a third installment will ever happen to his character. The actor added that if everything works out well on "The Defenders," the said show could most likely depict the end of his character's storyline.

If this happens, there is a possibility that viewers will never see Bullseye (Colin Farrell) and Daredevil square off in the near future. Another possible plot that would be removed is the death of Karen by Bullseye's hands, as entailed in the comics.

It is worth noting though that small screens didn't welcome Farrell's Bullseye largely due to his portrayal of the same role in Fox's movie adaptation, which he starred in with Ben Affleck, who played Daredevil.

Farrell as Bullseye in Fox's "Daredevil"

Due to the backlash from fans, rumor has it that Netflix may potentially remove Farrell from the cast and tap another actor to play Bullseye in case season three of "Daredevil" happens in 2017.
