Dallas Mavericks trade rumors 2016: Magic's Nikola Vučević key to save failing season?
Surprisingly, the Dallas Mavericks seen to be lackluster this 2016-17 NBA season. To turn things around, a trade might be essential and one possible target is Orlando Magic center Nikola Vučević.
It is uncertain why Vučević is targeted but this might be because of the Magic having a loaded front line. During the off-season, the 26-year-old was seen by some as a trade asset due to the team's new additions, specifically center Bismack Biyombo, with forwards Serge Ibaka and Jeff Green.
If the Mavs pursue Vučević and succeed, his acquisition will certainly have an impact since it betters their no. 5 position which badly needs help.
The current group of centers for Dallas features Andrew Bogut, Salah Mejri and A.J. Hammons. This unit lacks offensive production and the guy who has the best chance of improving that - Bogut - is only averaging 3.8 points this season. Aside from this, he missed a few games due to minor health setbacks.
Vučević can boost the scoring at center for the Mavericks. This season, he is only recording 10.7 points per game which may be caused by Orlando having a lot of big men. But before this, he was dropping 18 to 19 points each night.
Rebounding is also a strength of Vučević's and he is close to grabbing 11 boards per game.
A proposed deal for the Mavs is to ship Bogut and forward Justin Anderson to Orlando for Vučević.
It is unknown if the Magic would go for this, considering that Vučević is just much better than Bogut. Adding the latter is risky as well since he dealt with injuries in the past few seasons, but Anderson's inclusion might get them to say "yes."
Vučević will instantly be the new starting center for the Mavericks if this swap materializes. He is going to aid the likes of Harrison Barnes, J.J. Barea, and Wesley Matthews on the offensive end.
