Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors 2016: Washington Wizards' Marcin Gortat on champs' radar?
The Cleveland Cavaliers are seeking for a center this off-season and were linked to the likes of the Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins and Philadelphia 76ers' Nerlens Noel. But a new name might be added to their list of options and it is Marcin Gortat of the Washington Wizards.
Gortat is not an All-Star like Cousins nor an athletic blocker similar with Noel, but he gets the job done on both ends of the floor.
Last season, Gortat remained the starting center for Washington. He averaged 13.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, with 1.3 rejections per outing.
Despite the good numbers, The Inquisitr suggested in a report that perhaps the Wizards are ready to move on from Gortat since they signed ex-Indiana Pacers Ian Mahinmi this free agency.
Both have lucrative pacts and because Mahinmi is the recent signee for the Wizards, it means if they are trading one, it would be Gortat. This could be the reason why the Polish star was dragged to the rumor mill.
If the Cavs pursue Gortat and succeed, what they will have is a center who is not flashy and explosive like the other players at his position but a guy who knows his role, accomplishes what he must do on the court, and has the intangibles.
In The Inquisitr's report, one of the players Cleveland might ship to the capital in exchange for Gortat is guard Iman Shumpert.
Shumpert has been with the Cavaliers since the 2014-15 season when he and J.R. Smith were traded from the New York Knicks. In Cleveland, the 26-year-old was a backup of Smith and if he heads to Washington, he will have the same role. He is going to play second fiddle to Bradley Beal.
This is not bad for Shumpert as he will add depth to the Wizards' backcourt and is going to be a spark off the bench, contributions the Cavs lose when they deal him away.
