Cleveland Cavaliers free agency, trade rumors 2016: J.R. Smith's future with team unclear

Veteran guard J.R. Smith's future this free agency is yet to be determined as the negotiations with the Cleveland Cavaliers continue.

(Reuters/Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports)Guard J.R. Smith (right) is still not being signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers this free agency.

Smith is still unsigned and it looks like a little more waiting is needed before both sides can reach an agreement.

In a tweet by Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, he shared what is believed to be Smith's asking price.

This is uncertain, similar with Smith, who revealed his thoughts regarding the options he has as a free agent during a recent interview

Smith was asked about the possibility of him not playing in Cleveland next season and he stated, "I've thought about that situation, and I've thought about it the other way, too, going back and winning again. Both are juggled in the air and I'm kind of nervous about that choice when it gets presented to me."

This likely means that for now, Smith is undecided about his future especially with the Cavaliers.

The statement made by Smith could make teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) start their pursuit of him.

Smith is a quality veteran and proved that last season by being a scoring threat for the Cavs. He was also one of the team's best shooters and gave the opposing teams problems on defense.

If Smith is unsure if he will return to Cleveland, a number of teams might go after him and offer better deals that could test his loyalty to the only franchise he won a ring with.

The Cavaliers already expressed the intention of keeping Smith but as the off-season continues and he stays unsigned, the threat of him inking a contract with a different team will always be present.

Aside from Smith, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue and franchise superstar LeBron James are also still unsigned. But James already confirmed that he will be re-signing with the franchise.
