After the long wait, "Civilization" fans have finally gotten clear information regarding the release of the sixth installment of Sid Meier's game series. Game developer Firaxis, along with publisher 2K Games, announced this week that "Civilization VI" will be released on October 21st.

The surprising news came as a celebration for the 25th anniversary of "Civilization," which is the longest running franchise of 2K Games. The news also confirms that it will be tied to "Battlefield 1," the newly released EA game.

"We can't think of a better way to celebrate the silver anniversary of our longest-running franchise than launching the eagerly anticipated Sid Meier's Civilization VI, which will provide the most detailed, beautiful and complete experience ever featured in a Civilization game," said 2K president Christoph Hartmann via Express.

"Civilization VI" allows players to interact with their environment in various ways, expand their kingdom, propagate their culture, and build a civilization that will survive the test of time.

Since the new "Civilization" game allows players to expand their territories across the map, it will affect how they do warfare with each other. This time, players are allowed to target a particular area - a city's military base - to weaken their defense system. Thus, it also tests the strategic skills of each player to see which area of their empire they need to strengthen in terms of defense.

Another notable addition to the new "Civilization" game is that the interaction between civilizations changes as the game progresses.

In addition, the game is said to be built "from the ground up" with new technology and AI systems included so that players will really get to experience the feel of running a "real" army.

"Civilization VI" will be available in OS X, Windows and Linux. It will be released the same day as "Battlefield 1."
