'Captain America: Civil War' update: Film directors Russo brothers say Steve and Bucky's relationship is "personal"
The first official trailer for the much awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, "Captain America: Civil War," is finally out and has finally showed the fans what they can expect when the Accords Legislation has been passed. However, one surprising thing on the trailer that some fans might have noticed is the heavy focus on Bucky Barnes (a.k.a The Winter Soldier) and Steve Rogers (a.k.a Captain America).
Luckily, the co-directors of the movie, the Russo brothers or Joe and Anthony Russo, has finally shed some light on this matter and has revealed that, aside from the political side of the conflict, the film will also show some "personal" side on the conflict, most especially between Bucky and Steve Rogers.
During a sit down interview with the Russo brothers, Anthony Russo has explained that in the movie adaptation of the popular comic arc of the same title, Roger's decision will also contain some personal aspect, aside from the political Accords.
"The challenge was, we're doing the story of Civil War," Anthony Russo told Empire. "Which everybody knows is nominally about superhero registration. And in a lot of ways that can be a political issue, and we didn't want the conflict of the movie to solely exist on that level."
Bucky, in the film "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," was branded as a terrorist and is now being hunted down. Barnes is Rogers' closest and best friend before being abducted and brainwashed to be a supersoldier killing machine. And because of that, the government had decided to capture him at all cost and this is where the "personal" side for "Captain America" comes in.
"We wanted to figure out very personal reasons why everyone's relationship to this idea of registration is going to become complicated," Anthony Russo added. "That's what the relationship between Steve and Bucky allowed us to do, to get very personal in terms of why people would lean one way or the other."
Unfortunately, that's the only comment the Russo brothers can say regarding the relationship between Bucky and Steve. Fans will definitely find out more about these two in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," which is scheduled to be released next year, May 6, 2016.
