'Black Sails' season 4: Fourth season to be the last; fans make a tribute
It has recently been announced that the Starz original series "Black Sails" will be concluding the show in the upcoming season. What lies ahead for Captain Flint and his crew?
For the uninitiated, the "Black Sails" series is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island." It follows the tales of Captain Flint, portrayed by "Die Another Day" actor Toby Stephens. The captain is dubbed as the most feared pirate in the Golden Age.
"While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn't image anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island," co-creator and executive producer Jonathan Steinberg told Deadline.
The show is such an accomplishment for the network. It is the first Starz original series to go beyond the third season.
Fans of the show are doing all kinds of tributes for its last season. Recently, a fan of the show, Lauren Sarner, wrote an article in Inverse about the series. She, together with recently turned "Black Sails" fan Jasminne Young, discussed the show's best moments.
To name a few, the ladies believed that the show's "meticulous plotting" and "character development" makes "Black Sails" an all-time favorite. Newcomer Jasminne also noted that Flint's character appears to be lackluster at first, but the infamous pirate will eventually find a soft spot in the viewers' hearts.
In an interview with Inverse, Steinberg revealed that Silver, Luke Arnold, and Madi will be part of the major arcs in the final season of the show. When asked about what he's looking forward to in season 4, the showrunner replied that he is looking forward to the Flint and Silver dynamic. After season 3, apparently, the characters' relationship will enter a new state in the upcoming season.
To note, the show won two Emmys in its first season. One award was for visual effects and the other one for sound editing.
Starz hasn't announced the release date for "Black Sails" season 4 but the show is expected to set sail in the winter of 2017.
