'Avatar 2' spoilers: Sigourney Weaver might return as villain?

(Avatar Movie)Neytiri (Zoe Zaldana) and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) of the film "Avatar." It is said that the sequel of the film might be released in 2018 since James Cameron mentioned that he doesn't want to go up against "Star Wars: Episode 8" which is scheduled to be released in December 2017

Since the first film's release in 2009, James Cameron's "Avatar" is one of the highest grossing film franchises in recent history which resulted in an announcement of a couple or more "Avatar" sequels in the years to come. There were even reports speculating on the film's storyline and additional characters, especially with Sigourney Weaver's return in "Avatar 2."

As far as moviegoers can remember, Dr. Grace Augustine, who was portrayed by "Aliens" star Sigourney Weaver in the film's first installment, was killed during an encounter. This was despite efforts made by the film's main character Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) to save her life. It is said that "Avatar 2" might be featuring Dr. Grace's complete transition as a Na'vi. However, there are also rumors which suggest that Weaver might return as the new antagonist of the film. In addition, there are also speculations that Colonel Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, might be back as well and this time in aid of Jake.

These mentioned scenarios have yet to be confirmed by Cameron himself. However, the director gave bits of info on what to expect in the next "Avatar" film. He said that the story is set several years after the events of the first film. Cameron adds that by that time, Jake will be the new leader of the Omaticaya clan, while his wife Neytiri, who is played by Zoe Saldana, will be the clan's new high priestess.

Moreover, Cameron also stated that they were supposed to release "Avatar 2" in December of next year but decided to bump it a year further and explained that he prefers not to go head to head with "Star Wars: Episode 8." He added that he plans to do at least four sequels of the film with it being released every other year which is set to be out on 2020, 2022 and 2024.
