'Avatar 2' spoilers, updates: Film to be shot in New Zealand; aliens to be featured?
With little to no information available about the new "Avatar" film, fans have taken to the Internet to look for clues and spoilers. It is widely believed that the sequel to the popular 2009 film will be shot in the wonderful country of New Zealand.
James Cameron is a known lover of the country and has even promoted its tourism. He and his wife have visited New Zealand before, but rumor has it that he has also been staying in the country in order to film "Avatar 2."
As for what the plot will be, there are not a lot of details known about it. However, there is some talk of aliens being incorporated into the story. This stems from Cameron reportedly wanting to show a new world to viewers in "Avatar 2." It is also believed that the sequel will focus highly on the same issues brought up in the first film.
Fans can also expect some familiar faces when the sequel hits theaters. Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are expected to reprise their roles. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are also reportedly going to appear in the sequel, despite both being killed off in the 2009 film.
In the first installment, Lang played the role of Col. Miles Quaritch, the antagonist who eventually perished. On the other hand, Weaver was one of the good ones and played the role of Dr. Grace Augustine. However, Grace had also died in "Avatar."
With both actors expected to return to the sequel, it remains to be seen whether they will be playing the same roles. Some speculations claim that Weaver will somehow be the bad guy in the new film, owing it to the anticipation of surprising twists in the upcoming installment. Others have remained firm that Weaver will still be a protagonist in the sequel.
As for the film's release date, although it has suffered from a number of delays, it looks like fans will get to watch "Avatar 2" in 2018.
