'Attack on Titan' season 2 release date: February premiere will see new ape-like titan

(Kodansha)

With the release of the "Attack on Titan" video game on Feb. 18, 2016, many are now speculating that the second season of "Attack on Titan" will eventually follow suit. The second season of "Attack on Titan" is also expected to premiere sometime this February in Japan.

"Attack on Titan" is based on the popular manga series "Shingeki no Kyojin," created by Hajime Isayama. Season 2 of the anime series will continue to tell the same story as the manga series.

With fans eagerly anticipating the new season, it isn't at all surprising that some spoilers for the upcoming season have already been released.

When season 2 begins, Titans have penetrated the Wall Rose and it is up to the 104th Trainees Squad to protect the kingdom from the Titans.

In the upcoming season, Captain Erwin Smith will also lead "The Uprising" to overthrow the king because of his corruption. However, they will later realize that the king does not really hold any power or influence. Rather, the kingdom is actually controlled by the Reiss family, who have the ability to transform into Titans.

According to Crossmap, season 2 will also see the introduction of an "ape-like" Titan with the ability to speak, something that viewers haven't seen before. He will join the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan, who are also set to return. Their true identities will also be revealed.

Unfortunately, spoilers also reveal that Levi Ackerman will meet his demise in the upcoming season. Levi will sacrifice himself in order to rescue the members of his squad, including Eren Yaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert.

Furthermore, Captain Erwin Smith will also lose an arm in the fight against Titans and will eventually leave the squad.

"Attack on Titan" is set to premiere this February 2016 but a specific release date has not yet been specified. Hopefully an announcement will be made soon.
