While fans may have been hoping to watch the first episode of "Attack on Titan's" second season this year, it now appears as though they may have to wait until the calendar turns to 2017 before they can finally see it.

In a lengthy post shared on the Attack on Titan Wikia earlier this month, it was revealed that the eagerly anticipated debut of the anime's sophomore season has apparently been pushed to next year.

The information regarding the delay apparently came from Spanish manga web site Mision Tokyo, which in turn reportedly received their release date details from the Spanish distributor Selecta Vision.

Selecta Vision reportedly speculated that the second season of the anime would premiere next year, possibly sometime in January, after learning from Kodansha that the series had indeed been pushed back to 2017.

Interestingly enough, the Mision Tokyo article containing the information regarding the anime being delayed seems to have been taken down.

Prior to the news about "Attack on Titan's" second season potentially being delayed until next year, there were fans who were hoping that the series could be released sometime in 2016.

For now, the reasons for the potential delay also remain unclear, though rumors from earlier this year have indicated that a lack of available source material may be a factor.

There may also be a chance that the upcoming season of "Attack on Titan" could be its last.

According to Design and Trend, if the second season of the anime ends up spanning four entire story arcs, then that may be an indicator that the series may also be drawing to a close. Perhaps that may also be playing a role in the rumored delay.

If the second season of the series really ends up being its final offering, then the folks behind it may want to give it a fitting send-off, thus the need for added time to make sure that everything is in place.

More news about the second season of "Attack on Titan" should be made available later this year.
