Apple vs Samsung trial: Court Awards Apple $119.6m Damage Fees in Recent $2 Billion Patent Fight With Samsung

After a month-long court trial and investigation, the jury came up with a verdict, awarding Apple $119,625,000 in damage fees in the $2.2 billion lawsuit claiming Samsung infringed its patents. Samsung countered the lawsuit, saying Apple violated some of its patents. It also asked Google's help as Apple's claims involved more on software. Samsung has Android power most of its devices, a mobile operating system, owned by Google. The latter said the case is between Apple and Samsung, with a promise it will contribute to Samsung to pay for damages, if it loses.

The jury found during post deliberation that Samsung is guilty to have violated three patents out of five, as Apple claims - patent 5,946,647 or the "autocorrect text entry", naming the South Korean firm-produced devices in this suit; patent 8,046,721, the "slide-to-unlock" on some of its devices covered and 8,074,172 "how autocorrect suggests words".

Apple was also found guilty to have violated two of the counterclaims filed by Samsung and was fined $158,400. It was found not guilty of Samsung's patent 5,579,239 that is about video streaming during video or FaceTime calls. The Cupertino company was found guilty though of violating patent 6,226,449, that is, recording and saving audio and digital images.
