Android Nougat release date news: Two more Sony devices confirmed to receive the OS update
Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that at least nine of their devices are set to receive the Android Nougat operating system (OS) update, and now, that list has been expanded further.
Just recently, Sony revealed that two more devices are now scheduled to get the OS update, and they are the Xperia X Compact and the Xperia XZ.
Along with the two new additions, the other Sony devices that are set to receive the Nougat update currently include the Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia X Performance, the Xperia Z3 , Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and the Xperia Z5 Premium, according to a post on the official Sony Mobile blog.
It's still unclear if the list of Sony devices confirmed to get the Android Nougat update is now complete or if other smartphones and tablets may still be added.
While Sony has updated their list of Nougat recipients, an exact date for when the OS rollout may begin has not been provided just yet, though recent history suggests that it may take a while before the new software makes it to the aforementioned devices.
As Android Authority pointed out in an earlier report, the Android Marshmallow update made it to Sony devices about five months after Google first released it, and the same timeline could be followed for the Nougat OS.
If that is indeed the case, then the aforementioned Sony devices may start getting the Nougat update sometime around either late January or early February, though it's unlikely that the OS will be released simultaneously for all of them.
Sony has also urged device owners to follow the "@SonyMobileNews" Twitter account in order to find out exactly when the Nougat rollout will commence.
More details about the Android Nougat OS and when certain devices may receive it should be made available soon.
