'American Crime' season 3 spoilers: Timothy Hutton returns

Fans of ABC's anthology crime drama "American Crime" must rejoice as Golden Globe winning actor Timothy Hutton reprises his role as Russ Skokie in the upcoming third season of the series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Ridley's "American Crime" will return for season 3 with an intact main cast, recently confirming Hutton's return. He will joined by the actress who plays his character's love interest, Regina, (Felicity Huffman). Plus, Richard Cabral will also reprise his role as Hector Tontz.

"John and I are thrilled to have Tim return to season three," "American Crime" executive producer Michael McDonald said. "We believe that Tim's undeniable talent will be showcased in a role unlike anything we have ever seen from Tim. He will shock the audience in a darker twisted turn as a wealthy man struggling to keep his family and fortune."

Although nothing much is known about the upcoming season's storyline, it was previously reported that it will delve on issues about labor, economic divides, and individual rights.

In other news, ABC recently announced that "American Crime" received a total of four nominations for the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards. Lili Taylor and Felicity Huffman are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series. This is Taylor's first and Huffman's second in a row nod. Meanwhile, actress Regina King is nominated again for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, which she also won last year. On top of that, the entire show is nominated for Outstanding Limited Series. Winners will be revealed on the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards show on Sept. 18, Sunday, on ABC.

Also, John Ridley as the show's creator and showrunner will return for season 3, even though he previously hinted that he may stop working for it by the end of season 2. After getting all the main cast back, his return to pen the story of the show is definitely happening.

"American Crime" season 3 is expected to premiere next year's midseason.
