AMD Radeon RX 490 release date: Leaked photo suggests it will be released by the end of the year

(AMD)Radeon RX 480 is the latest Radeon GPU model AMD has at the moment and an upgraded Radeon RX 490 is expected to be introduced soon.

Visuals of recent games have improved greatly over the years, and it is but expected for companies to upgrade GPUs well. AMD has been teasing on the upcoming Radeon RX 490 and a supposed leaked photo suggests it could be released by the end of the years instead of the original first quarter of 2017 expectation.

There have been reports in July that Sapphire website has indicated that the AMD Radeon RX 490 is a dual Polaris 10-based graphics card. As per AMD naming system, Radeon-named units have a 256-bit memory bus and are designed to optimize 4K and VR gaming experience.

Tweak Town notes that Polaris 10 is the most powerful GPU AMD has before Vega, which means that instead of a more powerful stream processor, the upcoming Radeon RX 490 could have two Polaris 10 GPUs instead.

WCCF Tech reports that a slide that once appeared on AMD's website indicates that the RX 490 GPU has a memory interface that's larger than 256 bit. This is larger than what Radeon RX 480 and RX 470 have. The slide also shows that RX 490 has a tier 9 product in the RX 4XX family. It is designed for 4K games with a memory that suits the heavy bandwith demand resolution of the games belonging to 4K.

The publications has also gathered evidence that AMD's Radeon RX 490 could be released soon as it has gotten hold of papers that show shipments of RX 460, Rx 470, and RX 480. Among the product codes that do not correspond to any of the three units is an entry designated as C99. The value is also twice that of RX 480 board.

The fourth quarter of the year is fast approaching with September traditionally a month when many technological products are unveiled. However, all the reports should be taken with a grain of salt at the moment until the company makes an official announcement.
