2015 Tokyo Motor Show news: Suzuki to exhibit new compact car concepts

(SUZUKI)Suzuki will bring the Ignis, Mighty Deck and Air Traiser to the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show

Suzuki will unveil new concept cars during the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, to be held from Oct. 30 to Nov. 8. Suzuki's booth will feature the theme, "Suzuki Next 100." According to their press release, since the company is celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2020, "the exhibits represent proposals for products and technologies that give a sense of the company's preparations for ongoing success in the next 100 years."

The Japanese-based car manufacturer will unveil new concept models that show Suzuki's ability in delivering fun and enjoyment to its drivers and passengers.

The first model is the Ignis, a new-genre compact crossover that has urban and outdoor versatility. The vehicle is perfect for day-to-day use but on the weekends, the car is also capable of being driven in the great outdoors, able to confidently pass through snowy or rocky roads. The compact car looks simple yet striking, with a practical and uncluttered interior design. The center console features a touchscreen infotainment system and a simple analog instrument cluster.

The Ignis Trail Concept is a sportier version of the Ignis. It is a compact-crossover vehicle with even greater capacity for rough-road ruggedness. It features large diameter wheel and bold arch moldings that bolster its outdoor credentials.

Suzuki will also introduce the Mighty Deck, a cute and fun-oriented concept mini car with a canvas top and an open and adjustable load deck. The open deck can be lowered or raised automatically. Being one of the smallest pickups in the market, the car is only 133 inches long, 57 inches wide and 60 inches tall.

While Suzuki has not unveiled its technical specs yet, it is rumored to be powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine with automatic transmission that provides 63 horsepower.

The third concept model is the Air Triser, a compact three-row minivan. The cabin, with smart seat configurability, is roomy and looks like a private lounge. The seats can be configured into a "relaxation mode" where the seats face each other or in "lounge mode" where the seats form a U-shape sofa. The interiors also feature a large display that can provide entertainment for its passengers.

Suzuki will also showcase the Baleno, a compact hatchback that features a blend of elegant design, high performance, fuel economy and practicality. The Suzuki Baleno made its debut during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

The compact hatchback, despite its small size, still features ample space for luggage and four adults. The concept hatchback is suited for out of town trips. Its powertrain options include a 1.0-liter direct-injected turbocharged BOOSTERJET engine and a 1.2-liter DUALJET engine.
