Not much is known about the upcoming season 5 of the Australian drama series "Wentworth," but it is now speculated that Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) will be the new prison dog once the series returns for its next season.

According to reports, there is a possibility for Rabe's character to be the next prison dog as the show's popular character who used to hold the said position, Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack), has already been killed off in the series after she prevented Joan Ferguson's death.

However, there are also those who opine that it may not be possible for Joan Ferguson to be the next prison dog in the upcoming season of the series as her character may face penalties when the show returns after the events in the previous season.

In the event that Joan Ferguson will not really be the top prison dog in the upcoming season 5 of "Wentworth," it is said that there is a possibility for the series to find another one among the existing cast members to replace the popular character of Cormack.

Nonetheless, there also rumors claiming that Cormack is actually coming back to the series, and the show will continue to follow her relationship with Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson). This is despite the fact that no less than "Wentworth" executive producer Jo Porter who said that Bea Smith's death on the series was necessary in order for the planned storyline of the series to be carried out.

However, whether Cormack is coming back to reprise her role or not, she is just grateful for having been a part of the show that bravely tackles not just the drama in prison but also gender fluidity and relationship labels.

"I think with the Bea and Allie relationship there is a beautiful, maternal quality to it, like a sistership and being best friends, which exists in a lesbian relationship that you don't have in a hetero relationship. It transcends the erotic nature of the relationship, and there's something else in there that starts to chart other territories," Cormack said in an interview with CurveMag.

Although still unconfirmed, "Wentworth" season 5 is expected to arrive in April next year.
