'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewed or cancelled? series to pick up from season 2 ending if greenlighted

(Facebook/Wayward Pines)What will the human population of "Wayward Pines" wake up to in the third season of the series?

With the undeniably disappointing season finale rating of "Wayward Pines," rumor has it that the season 3 of the said series is unlikely.

According to reports, "Wayward Pines" season 2 ended with less than 1 percent of rating or roughly 2.3 million viewers only when it was aired last July 27.

To the uninitiated, the season 2 finale episode of "Wayward Pines" ended with a cliffhanger that left the fans of the series wondering what would become of the people in Wayward Pines. Will the human population still wake up after being on a sleep mode anew? Will the newborn Abby grow up a human and become fully human as its features suggest so?

Without question, these things look promising for another season. In fact, "Wayward Pines" executive producer Blake Crouch has said in an interview that the just-concluded season of the series may serve as a point for the series to pick up, in the event that it gets a green light for another season run.

"Look, Wayward Pines is very focused on the idea of human evolution and humans evolved into Abbies, but that does not have to be a static thing. It's continuing, even in the course of our show. Evolution has always pushed forward, and (the scene) suggests that the Abbies are changing also. The Abbies will evolve into something else. And we wanted to just drop the notion that perhaps when these residents of Wayward Pines emerge from the pods, they're going to find a very different world than the ones they left behind," Crouch said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly recently.

While it's true that the series has a lot of possible plots based on how the season 2 of the series ended, unfortunately, it remains uncertain at this point in time if it gets the nod of Fox for another season.

What will become of the newborn Abby? Will the humans really wake up to a different kind of reality once they do? How would they manage in an evolved environment?

These questions and more will be answered if and only "Wayward Pines" gets renewed for another season.
