With Ragnar Lothbrok severely weakened and the actor playing him starring in the epic "Warcraft" movie, it seems inevitable that "Vikings" will have a new king in season four.

There have been rumblings that "Vikings" star Travis Fimmel is set to leave the groundbreaking series after the fourth season to focus on his burgeoning Hollywood career. The actor is part of the ensemble cast of "Warcraft" and is playing Sir Anduin Lothar, an Alliance knight.

The movie, an adaptation of the popular "Warcraft" video game, is set to open on June 10, 2016. The film's recently released trailer showcased Fimmel and his role in the human-orc wars. Like his role in "Vikings," the Australian actor seemed tailored for his role as knight. He certainly has the experience after years of playing the Viking king Ragnar.

While video game aficionados are undoubtedly ecstatic with the news of "Warcraft's" impending arrival in movie theaters, fans of the "History Channel" series are wondering how season four and the succeeding seasons will unfold.

In an interview with "The Hollywood Reporter," the series' executive producer Michael Hirst pointed out that the events of season three has left the venerable Ragnar "hovering between life and death." This situation has led to rumors that in season four, the Vikings will overthrow the king and replace him with his son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig).

The idea is certainly no farfetched as Hirst has previously admitted that he can see the series still going forward even without Ragnar. As the showrunner explained in the same interview, Ragnar has a lot of sons who are already grown up. Historically speaking, some of his sons are more famous than him.

While the series seems prepared for Fimmel leaving, he's still a key character in season four. A teaser for the upcoming season hints that he'll soon be settling the score with his brother Rollo (Clive Standen) and Loki (Gustaf Skarsgard) will be placed under arrest for Athelstan's (George Bslagden) murder. But what's telling is a narrator talking about a generation passing while a new one arrives.

There's no specific date set but "Vikings" season four is set to return in February 2016.
