"Vikings" midseason 4 is rumored to air in July.

Before "Vikings" returns for midseason 4, fans can expect the fallen Norse king Ragnar Lothbrok to threaten everyone from Kattegat, including his own sons, who will try to kill him and steal his crown. Also, King Ecbert proposes an irresistible deal to Ragnar.

The midseason 4 finale episode, titled "The Last Ship," saw Ragnar daring everyone, especially his sons, to try to kill him so he can be booted out of the group after Vikings' conquest did not succeed. Plus, Queen Aslaug and Bjorn learned that Ragnar has a son with Queen Kwenthrith. Apart from committing adultery with the royalty, he also lied about burning down the Viking village in Wessex.

The upcoming episode of the second half of season 4 will show everyone fighting against Ragnar to kick him out of power. However, protecting his throne is the least of his problems, as an even bigger problem will greet him at the arms of Queen Aslaug. Aslaug will be shocked to learn that Lagertha has returned.

Meanwhile, among Ragnar's rebellious sons, it is highly likely that Ivar the Boneless will be his father's successor. Other reports have speculated it would be Bjorn, but he would be in an exploration in the Mediterranean with Floki and Helga.

In related news, "Vikings" was renewed for a fifth season by its home network, History Channel, recently. Aside from the news on the renewal, it has also been revealed that "The Tudors" star Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be joining the cast.

"The brilliant writing and depth of historical research and authenticity brought to the screen by Michael Hirst paired with our talented cast and crew, has made this series one of the most compelling, visually stunning historical dramas on television," History president Jana Bennett said in a statement, according to TV Line. "Vikings has raided the hearts of audiences and we are thrilled that Jonathan Rhys Myers will become a bigger part of the History family after his incredible performance in our upcoming production of 'Roots.'"

"Vikings" is expected to return on the first Thursday of July on History Channel.
