Toyota RAV4 TRD Pro news: Toyota GM hints at possible arrival of a TRD Pro version of the crossover
Toyota is believed to be releasing a sportier TRD Performance version of its RAV4 crossover.
According to Automobile Mag, Toyota General Manager Bill Fay made reference to its development during the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. Fay was present to introduce the latest model in the performance series, the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. Currently, the TRD Pro Series also includes performance versions of the Tundra and the 4Runner.
"You might just find some of that TRD Racing magic trickle down to a special production RAV4 model. That would be awesome," said Fay.
During the Chicago Auto Show, Toyota also unveiled the 2016 RAV4 Rally, which shows the potential of the crossover the bear sportier components. The rally car is powered by a 2.5-iter four-cylinder engine that delivers 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft. of torque. The rally-tuned crossover comes with 2WD-Open Class and a six-speed automatic transmission. The RAV4 crossover was also equipped with safety features like a stout roll cage, a navigation system, helmet boxes and air vents.
Unfortunately, Toyota has yet to officially confirm the development of the RAV4 TRD Pro. As such, its release won't be expected any time soon. Specs, too, are largely unknown.
However, car enthusiasts can expect similar upgrades that are seen in other TRD Pro vehicles. A TRD-tuned RAV4 will likely get sportier enhancements specifically with its powertrain, suspension and brakes. It will most likely get exterior enhancements as well.
According to Digital Trends, if released, the TRD Pro RAV4 will become the top-tier model in the RAV4 range and will sit above the SE trim, currently priced at $29,265.
Those looking to see some of the TRD magic referenced by Fay can instead turn their attention to the recently unveiled 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. The rugged and sporty truck comes with TRD-installed suspension and exhaust enhancements. The off-road truck also comes with a sporty design. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 278 horsepower.
The Tacoma TRD Pro is still on display at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show until Feb. 21.
Meanwhile, stay tuned for the latest news and updates regarding the rumored RAV4 TRD Pro version.
