After it was wrongly reported last month that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is arriving soon, the release date of the highly anticipated anime series is still up in the air.

There is no denying that many "Tokyo Ghoul" fans jubilated last month when Viz Media vice president Kevin Hamric was reported to have said in an interview that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is happening soon. However, the excitement was soon replaced with disappointment as Viz Media rectified the report, saying that Hamric was only misquoted as he was referring to "One Punch Man" season 2 and "My Hero Academia" as the anime series arriving this summer and not "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3.

Since then, updates on "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 have been scarce once more, leaving many fans wondering when it will really arrive. After all, prior to Hamric's interview, rumors about the anime's third season arriving this month were rife.

It can't be denied that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is still one of the most-anticipated anime series, despite the fact that its season 2 disappointed many fans as it deviated from the events in its manga counterpart. In fact, fans even launched a campaign for the anime to be rebooted by another studio as they were not happy with how Studio Pierrot handled its season 2.

Last year, rumors claiming that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 would feature Ken Kaneki, the series' main protagonist, having amnesia were loud. Allegedly, the half-human half-ghoul would lose his memory, following his defeat to Arima. As he loses his memory, it was also reported that he would assume a different identity, Sasake, and become a private ghoul investigator.

However, with no certainty on when "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will arrive, fans can only speculate for now if it will really be the case.

While the release date of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is still up in the air, fans can, at least, look forward to the live-action "Tokyo Ghoul" movie top-billed by Japanese actor Masataka Kubota as Ken Kaneki and is slated to hit the Japan theaters this summer.
