'Thor: Ragnarok' spoilers, cast news: Cate Blanchett talks about her villain Hela
In the upcoming installment for Marvel's "Thor" film series, the titular character will be joined by other superheroes, namely Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). But new enemies will be coming into the picture as well, such as Cate Blanchett's Hela.
Recently, the critically acclaimed actress teased a few details about her villainous role. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Blanchett shared that Hela has been trapped in a box for millennia. All that time has made her an angry character. But when she is accidentally freed from her prison, she will do everything in her power to remain so.
When the titular character Thor (Chris Hemsworth) goes against her, she easily overpowers him. Consequently, the hammer-wielding god of Asgard will be sent to Sakaar, where he becomes an intergalactic gladiator. It is here that he realizes that he is not as special as he once thought he was.
"[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers," Hemsworth told the publication. "No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst."
Joining Thor in Sakaar, is the Hulk. The planet will be the setting for the "Planet Hulk" storyline from the comic books, wherein he becomes a powerful gladiator. But unlike Thor, the Hulk will be empowered in this new setting. This is where he feels like a god.
Hela is, without a doubt, a force to be reckoned with since Thor will eventually have to team up with his nemesis half-brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to defeat Hela.
"Thor: Ragnarok" hits theaters this Nov. 3.
More updates should arrive in the months leading up to its premiere.
